Chlorination and Certification to BS8558
Water chlorination services.
Private supply pipes are required to be chlorinated and tested before a connection is allowed to the water main to protect public health.
Aquasource will provide this chlorination service on request.
Each system will be flushed with clean potable water before being chlorinated to remove and cuttings or other dirt and debris.
After flushing , the system is filled to capacity with a solution containing free chlorine (minimum 50mg/l strength) which is left in the pipework for a minimum of 1 hour. Aquasource will then neutralise the chlorine solution and dispose of it safely. Aquasource will then flush the system through again with clean water to remove any traces of chlorine.
The system is then again filled with potable water and left to sit for a minimum of 1 hour. This water will then be sampled for Chemical and Microbiological Analysis. The samples will be submitted to one of our Laboratory partners to be analysed using UKAS Approved methods.
The results of the laboratory analysis will then be submitted in a report to the client along with a certificate of chlorination to enable the client to connect to the public water supply
When is a chlorination needed?
- Prior to connection of new pipe work to the water mains supply – otherwise Water Utilities have the right to refuse connection
- If there is any suspected contamination to the supply
- If the pipe work or welfare units have not been used for an extended period of time
- Any new build properties
- Installation or maintenance of sprinkler systems
Requirements for chlorination and specific tests needed can vary depending on your utility company. You should always check with your utility what is required and the level of certification expected before the chlorination goes ahead.
