Thermal Response Test Groundsource hole drilled in Central Truro

Aquasource have drilled a Thermal Response Test* hole to a depth of 160m in the centre of Truro. The site proved challenging and as ever water management was key.
There are very few sites where Aquasource cannot drill groundsource holes having drilled under houses, in the middle of sheltered housing complexes, cliff tops and now right in the heart of Truro.

*Thermal Response Testing

A thermal response test is a way of measuring the actual in-situ performance of the rock beneath a site. A hole is drilled and probe installed in the normal way. Hot water is then pumped into the ground loop and the rate at which the heat dissipates is measured. This relates to the amount of heat that can be extracted from the hole.

This then can inform the designer of the final ground array and will usually mean that the factor of safety can be reduced and with it the total number of metres needed to be drilled. A Thermal response test is only justified on large projects as for small domestic or commercial systems the cost will usually outweigh the benefits.
